Any quick questions before you arrive?

You'll get hands-on from start to finish β€” shaping, soldering, and polishing your own piece while your silversmith handles the cutting and grinding. We'll help you along the way and add any final touch-ups so you go home with something you love. No prior experience needed.

You can make a gemstone ring, pendant, earrings, bracelet, or bolo tie set with a natural semi-precious gemstone. Prefer no stone? We also do inlay rings, plain silver bands, and bangle cuffs. Everyone walks out the same day with a finished, solid sterling silver piece.

Plan for a 2–3 hour hands-on experience. That time is measured from the moment you've picked your gemstone and we begin cutting your metal. Choosing your stone and finalizing your design happens before that window starts, so arriving on time with a few ideas in mind keeps things moving and gives you the most time at the bench. If you take longer selecting your design, your visit can run a bit longer β€” and that's okay. We want you to enjoy as much of the hands-on experience as you can.

The Silversmithing Workshop has a $75 base at most studios ($95 at our Waikiki and Irvine locations). That base includes a choice of three bezel options and three band options to make a ring or pendant β€” the only add-on is your gemstone.

Gemstones run $15–$120, depending on size, type, and rarity. Most guests spend about $130–$165 per person all in, though you can go lower or higher to fit your budget. Anything set with a gemstone carries the base cost.

Prefer no stone? Plain silver bands start at $30 (up to $75), and bangle cuffs run about $40–$120. Add-on and gemstone prices are the same at every location β€” only the base cost changes.

We always recommend a reservation, and you can book online, by text, or by phone. Online booking closes two hours before the workshop time β€” inside that window, text or call and we'll fit you in when we can.

Walk-in availability depends on the location:

  • Provo, Park City, and St. George are appointment-only. If there's no appointment booked that day, we won't have an instructor on-site, so please confirm with customer service first.
  • Salt Lake City, Waikiki, Gilbert, Irvine, and Boise take walk-ins for permanent jewelry and charms, and can sometimes fit in a walk-in workshop β€” usually a silver band or bangle cuff. A full gemstone piece takes 2–3 hours and is best reserved ahead.

For any Silversmithing Workshop walk-in, text or call first to confirm.

You can reschedule anytime β€” just reach out by text or phone and our customer service team will move you.

Cancellations made within 24 hours of your workshop are charged a $20 cancellation fee per person. The fee paid at booking is a nonrefundable reservation fee, not a deposit β€” it isn't applied toward your workshop cost and isn't refunded if you cancel. If you reschedule, though, it carries over to your new date, so you won't pay a second reservation fee.

Yes β€” everything in the workshop is solid .925 sterling silver (92.5% pure silver, with the remaining 7.5% copper and zinc). For most people that's effectively hypoallergenic, but because of those trace alloys we can't call it fully hypoallergenic. If you have a known copper or zinc allergy, there's a small chance of a reaction.

Sterling silver can tarnish, but rarely if you wear it regularly β€” natural skin oils and everyday use keep it bright. It tends to oxidize mainly when it sits unworn (say, in a jewelry box). The best part: bring any Gem Studio piece back anytime for a free polish. We'll run it through the ultrasonic and send you home that day with its original shine.

Yes β€” you're welcome to, with a few requirements:

  • We work only with cabochon-style gemstones (flat bottom, rounded top) β€” typically turquoise and semi-precious stones. We do not set faceted stones like diamonds, rubies, or sapphires.
  • We use two bezel sizes (1/8" and 3/16"), so we'll inspect your stone first to confirm it can be set securely. If it's too thin or too thick, it may not hold.
  • There's a $15 setting fee per personal stone, and you'll sign a waiver since we can't take liability for customer-supplied stones.
  • We can't work with family heirlooms or irreplaceable sentimental pieces. Any bezel setting carries a risk of cracking a stone, so anything truly precious belongs with a fine jeweler rather than this entry-level workshop.

Within your 30-day warranty, resizing on a piece you made and bought from us is covered. After 30 days there's a charge that depends on your band and the new size, so we'll inspect it and give you an exact quote

Any manufacturer defect β€” something we didn't make correctly in your workshop β€” is covered free within the first 30 days. The 30-day warranty covers defects only, not normal wear and tear or accidental damage (for example, a stone you cracked or a piece you damaged isn't covered, even within the first 30 days). Outside that window, repairs go through a quick inspection for an exact price.

We only repair, remake, or reattach pieces made by Gem Studio (including our permanent jewelry and charms). We don't take in outside jewelry.

There's no strict minimum age. We've had silversmiths as young as 8, and permanent jewelry works for kids even younger (around 5+). The firm rule: anyone under 18 must have a parent present, and the parent signs the waiver.

From there, we adjust our hands-on level to whoever's in front of us. If a younger silversmith wants to hold the torch, we keep our hand right under theirs the whole time so the piece comes out perfect and everyone stays safe. It's about how each guest is doing in the moment β€” not their age β€” and we'll make sure everyone has a great time.

Absolutely β€” the best move for any group is to reach out by phone or text so we can check staffing and availability for your date. Each studio has a different maximum capacity for a single workshop:

Studio Max group size
Salt Lake City - 32
Provo - 32
Gilbert - 32
Boise - 28
Irvine 24– 28 (24 most comfortably)
St. George - 24
Waikiki - 20 (18 preferred)
Park City - 16

Staffing and open workshop times don't always reach those maximums, so please confirm with customer service first. You can also book a private session β€” if your group is smaller than the session's capacity, you cover all the available spots in that session (that's the private-session minimum).

For larger groups, book at least 3–4 weeks ahead. Our calendar is open six months out, and while most reservations come in 7–10 days before, planning early is key for bigger parties.

Yes β€” permanent jewelry is a welded chain (bracelet, anklet, necklace, or body chain) closed without a clasp. All open locations accept walk-ins, and you can also book ahead. Wait times vary with how busy the studio is, so you may be asked to take a seat for 10–15 minutes.

The exceptions are Provo, Park City, and St. George β€” since they're not mall locations, they may not be open without an appointment, so check with customer service first.

Pricing works off our chain menu (sterling silver, gold-filled, and rose gold-filled), ranging from $55 up to $120–$190 depending on the chain and style. There's a $10 welding fee per chain, which covers the weld and its warranty β€” so most permanent bracelets start around $65 ($55 chain + $10 weld). Prefer not to be welded? We can finish it with a lobster clasp instead. We recommend welding because it secures the chain β€” and any charms you add β€” so nothing slips off.

If something goes wrong, our 30-day warranty covers one free replacement if you lose the chain, or a free reattachment if our weld didn't hold. Note: we only weld Gem Studio chains β€” we don't weld onto outside jewelry.

Gem Studio has two kinds of gift cards:

  • An in-studio gift card (through our Square system), available as a physical card we can ship or as an eGift card.
  • An online / e-commerce gift card (through our Shopify store), which is always digital.

A couple of important notes:

  • Balances can't be checked online. Reach out to customer service and we'll look it up for you.
  • Gift cards are never applied to your workshop booking. Don't enter the code when you reserve β€” save it and use it toward your in-studio purchase the day of your visit.

Yes. We offer 10% off for:

  • Military, veterans, and first responders (valid ID required)
  • College students (valid ID required)
  • Your birthday β€” within the week of your birthday; just show your ID when you come in

Loyalty program β€” earn points and unlock rewards:

Points earned & Reward

250 Points - $15 off your first visit
750 Points - Free silver band
1,250 Points - Free permanent bracelet
1,750 Points - Free gemstone ring

In-studio promotions when you buy a full-price gemstone item:

  • Buy 2, get 1 free on a silver band set
  • 20% off a permanent bracelet purchased in the same visit
  • 20% off your second gemstone item

A few things to know: discounts and promotions apply to the individual and their items, not the entire transaction or group. For example, only the college student in your group gets the student rate, and only on their item. The full-price-gemstone promotions are per person and can't be split among friends. And like our gift cards, discounts and promo codes are never applied when booking β€” bring them in and we'll apply them at checkout.

We have eight studios. Each one has its own page with that location's address, current hours, and live availability:
